Shane King

United States,  Winter Park Full Sail University,  Computer Animation,  May 08, 2015
My name is Shane King, and I am a graduating student from Full Sail University. I am a very passionate artist with a background in traditional art. What started from Drawing, Painting, Sculpting, Glassblowing, has turned into a full blown love for 3D art. I have chosen 4 pieces for my final portfolio/ Demo Reel, They are: Lily, Flame, Black hawk, and Female Study. The motivation for me was mostly to learn and get better, but more importantly; to set the stage for the next process, a job. I truly want the opportunity to work for a company so that I can learn and to also contribute to the team by being the best artist I can be. I have no expectations on where I want to go; I just know that I want to be the best artist that I can possibly be. I see myself being easily integrated into any pipeline. I also believe that I can get along with everyone and be a contribution to the creation of beautiful artwork. I am open to any job opportunities that I receive after graduation, I’m not sure what the universe has in store for me, but I do know this… I will always be an artist. Always.

Lily: Modeling, Retopo, Textures and Uv’s, Rigging and Animation, Lighting and Shading by Shane King. The goal for this model was to be the attention grabber, I wanted her to have life , I wanted her to make you KNOW who Lily is. This was my way of keeping the attention of the viewer after the first 20 seconds. Not only does it scare you a little bit, but it’s a very sexy and distinct look. I knew she needed to be the first piece for that important reason… The hook.
Software: Maya, MentalRay, Zbrush, Photoshop, Mudbox, Nuke

Flame: Entire Pipeline by Shane King. Flame was the continuation of that hook. So now that you have given me your attention, Flame is the solidification of that process. He is the “ Now watch what I can do” part. This piece is one of the most detailed for all the passes that took to make it. This is a very spiritual piece, I really see it as a representation of “ MY FLAME” Or my will, dedication, and passion.
Software: Maya, V-Ray, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Nuke

Black Hawk : The emotional scene, Now that the attention of the viewer has been made concrete, it’s now time to appeal to the emotions in some way. This is what I did in the death scene of my Black Hawk. The goal was not to be harsh with the mouse, but instead to make the viewer have FEELINGS towards the mouse. If the viewer had some kind of emotion towards this mouse the goal was successful.
Software: Maya, V-Ray, Zbrush, Yeti , Substance Painter, Photoshop, Nuke
Female Study: The final piece, I felt that it was important to show my understanding of anatomy. Of course you get an understanding of that with Flame, but I wanted to make certain that the viewer was aware of my understanding of forms and anatomy. Not only that, but there is a sense of beauty in this female that can’t be explained but by subtlety. It’s the overall collaboration of Lighting, Pose, Camera, and the Sculpting that made this piece successful.
Software: Maya, V-Ray, Zbrush, Mudbox, Photoshop, Nuke
