My name is Jonathon, I'm a final year Character Animation student.

I've spent my final year at university studying entry level techniques for the Visual Effects industry as well as demonstrating my animation skills. Throughout this project I have successfully completed a matchmove and body track to sell interaction with a live action actor. I have also spent time animating a Dragon through several shots. Finally I learned motion capture and used these techniques in collaboration with another student.

Shot 1 -

Whilst filming in the green screen studio I directed the actor as well as the stand in actor giving reference for the dragon, I controlled the camera and measured tape to help with accurate tracking and precise measurements to help with scaling in Maya.

After the green screen shoot, I corrected the lens distortion, completed the matchmove and used the default Maya biped mesh for a body track. I then completed a depth pass and I’m currently still working on the creature animation.

I am currently working on all of the creature animation using several creatures as reference, primarily Komodo Dragons and Crocodiles. I also spent a small amount of time on the environment models and lighting.

I am currently working on the creature animation, however in terms of reference I have looked primarily at Eagles and
Albatross in order to produce realistic flying animation. I also looked at several videos for reference of the Deer, to find small motions which help sell the Deer.

As a group we shot and filmed the motion capture in Cortex. Then I cleaned the data before sending it through to MotionBuilder. Within MotionBuilder I reassigned the data to a new character then brought it into Maya. From Maya I cleaned the data some more using animation layers, reassigning and changing the motions however keeping slight movements throughout the body.
