My name is Borja and I attended Gnomon School of Visual Effects in California. I studied Architecture but my main interest was always about Digital Environments and overall Matte Painting, During my degree I knew from Gnomon School of Visual Effects in California and I moved there as soon as I could to complete my studies there. I spezialized in Environments, matte painting and Digital Sets .

The original idea behind this reel was developing an environment reel. I started looking for imaginary environments that represented important parts in my life. I wanted to explore all the different techniques used for environments from Sculpting, modeling, Photogrammetry Digital sets, Spherical photography Matte painting...Also I wanted to create environments totally based on techniques, i.e a fire environmemt, an environment made of cloth, clouds, an environment made of volume lights....I wanted to mix all this environments together and create a single animation. Finally I tried to keep working on these ideas and these are some of those environments that I created

(04-90) Galleon. This model comes from a phisical model that I built. I used Dense Photogrammetry to medel it and then I retopologized. I wanted to explain all the process in a single shot and explore the Maya modules to generate a phisycal simulation. An Ocean Shader drives the Galleon Hull, and then parent constaints drive the sails and ropes. I used Ncloth and Nucleus folicles for everything.
The environment here is located on Red Rock Canyon. I used Photogrammetry and sculped some rock formations.

(90-116) Tower.- I designed this tower for an Indie project that I did as a student. I created a very basic 3d model and used 2,5 d matte painting projections to animate it

(116-140) Room: This background was captured by spending a whole evening at Griffith Observatory in LA. I was experimenting with hdri and photography and created a simple room. I was more interested about creating a cinematic lighting than in a realistic render.

(140-160) 3d Matte paintings.

(160-End) Bradbury Building; This is a Sparse Photogrammetry project. I used dense Photogrammetry softwares for the other projects (Photomodeler Scanner and Agisoft Photoscan) but this has been made with Image Modeler 2009. The goal was to build the Bradury Building in Los Angeles using only images. No Cross sections, elevations or plans have been used here.
