Digital media is quickly becoming the pervasive means of communication for both popular culture and artistic expression. The proliferation of Internet and mobile content, digital storytelling and interactive experience points to an increasingly digital communication future.
SCAD’s School of Digital Media provides students with the technical and artistic skills necessary to excel in television, online media and video games using an educational model to emulate professional experience.

In Visual Effects, SCAD trains students how to work at the forefront of the entertainment industry by transforming static visions into memorable visual sequences and characters. Numerous SCAD visual effects alumni have shared Academy Awards for work on vividly impressive films such as “Gravity,” “Life of Pi” and “The Great Gatsby.”
SCAD offers one of the first and most celebrated Interactive Design and Game Development programs in the U.S., where designers blend technical mastery and aesthetics.
These professionals conceive and create the world’s most popular video games, award-winning websites, new smartphone apps and digital platforms. SCAD has been nominated the past three years for the Electronic Entertainment Expo’s (E3) College Game Award. In 2013 and 2014 SCAD students won the top prize, as selected by a blue-ribbon panel of industry experts.
In Animation, SCAD students learn how to become dynamic and multi-faceted animators by combining training in 2-D, 3-D, stop-motion, digital modeling, rigging, lighting and look development.
Graduates rise to the pinnacle of the profession, working for companies such as Disney, Pixar, 20th Century Fox, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon. Recently, 20 SCAD graduates contributed their talents to “Frozen” sharing the 2014 Oscar for Best Animated Feature, which is the highest honor for feature-length animation.
The SCAD Motion Media Design program creates and delivers some of the most memorable moments in popular culture. Motion Media designers learn to work in both fine art and commercial roles at the intersection of video, abstract film, computer animation, kinetic layout and typography design. Companies that actively recruit SCAD motion media students include Apple, CNN, ESPN, Sony Pictures Imageworks, MTV, NBC Sports, Showtime Networks and Turner Broadcasting.
