Kitbash Kid

Mr Wu Jun’An, Miss Huang JingYu ,
Singapore,  Singapore LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore,  BA(Hons) Animation Arts,  June 01, 2014
The story is about a friendship between a Chinese boy who lives on a typical 1960s Singapore housing estate and a robot.

Jun Bao a Chinese boy who lives on a typical 1960s Singapore housing estate. He enjoys making small robots until one day he found the parts he needs for a big robot. The robot that he made is curious about the world around it. Jun Bao began to test his robot to ensure that it is functional. However the curiosity of the robot brings not only joy but trouble to the boy.

The film was developed and produced by 2 final year students on the BA(Hons) Animation Arts programme at LASALLE College of the Arts. Software used was MAYA, ZBrush, Photoshop and AfterEffects. The film was produced over a 9 month period – 3 months for preproduction and development, followed by 4 months of production.

Since graduating, Jun’An is now employed by a local production company as an Animator. He still aims to develop and produce Singaporean, locally produced stories as animated shorts. He has struggled hard over the last 3 years to develop himself as an Animator – He feels that his performance is beginning to manifest through the animation and he is starting to see the faint glimmer of a successful result. Animation is perpetual challenge both technically and through the performance; Consequently, he endeavours to continue perfecting his animation skills. He is also interesting in local content as a source of storytelling. In Singapore this is often overlooked.
